NOTICE: "...Looking for information on my wife's uncle S3C Herbert Silverman, now deceased (spent life in VA hospital after WWII). Served with VB-101, PATSU 1-2 at Munda Point, Solomon Islands. Had a commendation for helping to save a DD in 1943. He apparently spent several days in the water. Returned to NAS Alameda, California 11/22/44. He told me stories about the PBYs and The PBMs. I so wanted to be like him that I too inlisted after High School. I ended up diving below the waves (EOD), rather than soaring above them. NOTICE: "...I am looking for anyone who was in PATSU-63? We serviced VP-63 PBY5s in Pembroke Dock, Wales. We arrived there from Argentia, Newfoundland via Boston, Pier 92. From there we went to Brooklyn, NY Receiving Station, onto Staten Island, then the USS Block Island (with a flight deck and hangar deck full of P47s), back to Argentia (to pick up more men and supplies), continuing with 2 DDE escorts (off Port and Starboard Bow), through a hurricane, finally landing in Belfast. From there we went to a British Army Base (overnight) taking a ferry from Larne to Scotland. We jumped on a train (only had Army K rations to eat) to our final destination in Wales. If any of you "misfits" are still alive, please contact me. I was the one along with my buddy (Sandy) who almost missed the ferry back to Scotland because we went to town and got loaded on scotch! Remember - we burnt the wooden bunks and straw mattresses to keep warm in the English Army Camp and had tea and beans for breakfast...Charles "Ed" Will eddiewill@webtv.net..." [09OCT99]
