I worked in the Aircraft Logs and Record Office then the last year was a Plane Captain on the R4D8 and the TF-1 for a few flights. We were hit while taking off at night from NAS Miramar, California by a jet making a dead stick landing (out of fuel). The R4D was repaired then turned over to ships company at NAS North Island, San Diego, California in July 1960..." [01OCT2010]

Transferred to the VP-MAU NAS Moffett Field, California when it started up, and remained there, known to one and all as "the oldest living mammal" or OLM, and stayed until disestablishment in Sept 91, then went to VP-91 NAS Moffett Field, California. Remained there until Jan 1994 when I returned to VP-65 and retired there in AUG 96, still flying and believed to be the senior active FE in the NAVY. Happy to hear from any old Shipmates..." GLIME, AM Byron F. J. bylaine@comcast.net "...Was a member of FASRON-114 1949/1950. Worked in the metal and machine shop which had three heat treating ovens and other major tools and equipment. Our ovens were used for frying dolly varden trout (on duty nights) when they were not being used for the intended use. Maintained our one F6F Hellcat,one JRF and many VP squadron P2Vs. Our outdoor activities consisted of climbing "Old Woman Mt" and sliding wildly by down again. We fished, hunted and went on many weekend survival trips on Kodiak. We lived off the land for three days. I wonder if my friends (Bird, Bronson or Mckiszic) remember the unknown police dog that accompanied us on one of our many trips into the wilderness?..." I was known as "JAYBO" and remember some of the other crewmates that left a lasting impression. John Crane (sic), Les Sells, Ed Crutchfied, Willy Guillebeau, Ed. Gamble (BROGAM), Lt. Wall etc. I did not stay in the service after my four years were up, but got out, returned to New York, stayed drunk for a year or two and then got it straight. I have been with the Gov't. since '66 and have be posted from Portland, Me., to my present site here in Atlanta.
