Memories abound re my very first sea duty in the USN, '52-'55, as a fresh-caught ATAN-to-AT2. Vividly remember the transition from PBM-5S2 to P5M-1, then -2. I retired from active duty as a NFO/LDO in '77...An ex-VP-type in '56, I joined VW-13 as a 1st Tech based at NAS Patuxent River, Maryland. Returned as ATC to VW-11 in '63, and commissioned LDO in Argentia later that year. Went off to become the last LDO to be designated an NFO. Served then in A3 types in VAH-8, VAH-10, and VQ-2. Memorial Picture "...HAAS, AO Edward J...My Father, Edward J. Haas, passed away April 2004. Dad was an AO and was air crew in P2V aircraft based in Japan sometime between 1956-1959. I think that he was based out of NAS Atsugi, Japan or Youkouska. He was part of VAH-8 onboard the Midway for the 1959 to 1960 cruise. I don't know what squadron he was in but he had a jacket patch with a picture of a donkey on it and it read Fergie's Flying Jackasses. Dad never talked a lot about it and I was just wondering what his job might have been and what kind of guy he was then. I was a destroyer sailer and Dad always made sure that I knew that he was aircrew and NOT ships crew. If anybody knew him I would be grateful for anything that you could tell me. Daniel J. Haas xkw648@yahoo.com..." [20MAR2008]
