Subj: Admin. Rept,- Loss of PV-1 airplane, Bu#34828; missing U. S. Naval Personnel; Sub. by CO, BombRon 141, AirFor, LantFlt, 20 Nov. 1943.

1. Forward for recommendation.

2. At 1440 on 13 November 1943 the plane piloted by Lieutenant (jg) Leck Musick Evans, took off for routine convoy coverage of four and one-half hours and was last seen in vicinity of the convoy at 1735 on the same date. Although an extensive and organized search was conducted by plane and lighter-than-air craft, no trace of the plane or occupants was found. While there is a possibility that the plane crashed and the pilot, passanger, and other members of the crew were drowned, there is no definite evidence to that effect. It is therefore recommended that:

Leck Misick Evans, lieutenant (jg), A-V (T), U.S.N.R.Warren George Goetz, ensign, A-V (W), U.S.N.R.George Dean, aviation chief radioman (PA), U.S.N.Albert Kutchak, aviation machinist's mate third class, U.S.N.Robert Luman Yaw, aviation ordinanceman third class, U.S.N.Edgar H. Sproles, radiomanm third class, U.S.N.R. will be carried on the rolls of the Bureau of Navel Personnel for a period of twelve (12) months...etc"
