UPDATE "...I was a passenger in the P2 on that flight. It was in 1963, at the end of the exercise. Just prior to that flight, we watched an endless parade of ships in three columns passing Sangley Point to anchor off Manila.I have a couple of photos from that flight, will dig them out, see if they are still useable. We were from 10 Squadron, RAAF, Australians, not the dreaded Kiwis. Lately we have started to beat them at Rugby, when that happens we don't mind them too much. But, please, Tom, don't give them any kudos - they might get confident and give us a run for our money in cricket. So, we were 10 Sqn, RAAF. Our P2V-7s were new delivered in 1962, soon to be known as SP2H. Perhaps we had three at Sangley Point on this exercise, maybe four. The fourth aircraft from which the photo was taken was another pig-boat. Don't blame me for that expression, I learnt it at Sangley. Somebody painted a kangaroo on a pig-boat, got a hard time as they were sprung in the act. Somebody else put a big red kangaroo up on the chequered water tower. That probably lasted a while. I was about E5 rating then, claim no responsibility.I enjoyed that TDY, also another to Barbers point in 1964.I'm an armchair aviator these days, concentrate on WWII squadrons which came to SoPac or SWPac, but cannot stop my enquiring mind from breaking the rules..."
