Originally was with Crew 5 as Sensor 2. When we deployed to NAS Sigonella, Sicily, I had qualed as Sensor 1 on CAC-2. If I remember correctly, that was in 1974. DaSILVA, Anibal José ww2ferreter@att.net "...It is very difficult finding much about "Dragon Patrol" VPB-119. Eugene Prezioso and I were ECM crewmembers after arriving from CASU-60. Previously we served aboard two Seaplane Tenders in Lingayen Gulf after arriving from CASU-60. When the second Tender was leaving for the states we asked to be returned to CASU-60. Can you provide any details about VPB-119? My plane was being locked on by radar fire control over the Haiphong/Hanoi area of French Indo-China when I detected it and warned the pilot in time to sweep downward as black flak peppered where we had been. With one sweep of a ship's radar detected, we homed in on a freighter with an aft superstructure and sunk it before we went up a Formosan harbor skimming the water. There were ships all around us but none fired since we were below their deck level. We exited as we entered. I was eventually assigned to VP-5. Towards the end of my enlistment, Pat Carr, a radioman whom I knew in VP-5, called me up and told me to apply for a Field Engineer position with Link Aviation, Inc. I did so and was hired. I worked at air force bases in the southeastern US, for MAAG(France) in West Germany and Morocco, the USAF in West Germany and at Link's plant as systems design engineer. I resigned to work for NASA at the Manned Spacecraft Center in Houston, Texas..." [25MAY2003]

DeMADALER, Kirk capt.kirk@erols.com "...I was in VP-5 located at NAS Jacksonville, Florida from 1976 untill 1980. I served in three deployements, first to Italy, then to NAS Keflavik, Iceland, and finished my duty in NAS Bermuda in 1980. I was mostly TAD to AIMD as the squadrons Crypto Tech. I was one of the "unsung" people behind the scene. I also worked many of the com nav repair stations and the sono area when they had particularly ugly problems, and although I spent little time directly with the squadron personnel almost every piece of electronic equipment that was on the aircraft I fixed at one time or another over the four years. I wish I had had a closer relationship with the squadron people as being TAD all the time resulted in not really being part of anything. This resulted in me terminating my relationship at the end of my first tour I can't help but believe that if I had been closer to the others I would have reinlisted. I enjoyed the travel and found the officers and crews to be very friendly, I have not located many stories from the people in the squadron at the time I was in on your web site. So I'll pass on a brief one I remember as very funny. It was at the "over the hump party" in Italy when we got the bus driver totally drunk and he must have sideswiped about ten cars getting us out of the beach area i remember him flooring the bus and laughing like hell as he careened from side to side I thought it was very amusing and wonder if anyone else remembers the incident? Good Luck to all..." [08JUL2002]
